Tips for Your Surgery

Post-Operative

Post-OpThe length of time you will spend in the recovery room will depend on the nature of your surgery, your condition and the type of anesthesia that you receive. In the recovery room, you will receive a warm blanket, and once ready, you will go to the private recliner area with a personal television until you are ready for discharge. If your surgeon believes that your condition requires in-patient medical care, then you will be admitted for such care into our in-patient, overnight Recovery Care Center (RCC). The RCC is staffed 24 hours a day by professional nurses.

Overnight/Inpatient Stay Information:
If the surgical procedure you are scheduled for requires an overnight or inpatient stay, you may find the following additional information helpful in planning for your stay and answering any questions you may have. Items to bring for your stay:

  • We will provide hospital gowns, a robe and slippers. If you wish, you may bring your own nightgown, pajamas or slippers.
  • You may bring your own personal care items (curling irons, blow dryers, shavers, etc.) and toiletries. Your bathroom does have a supply of body and hair soap.
  • You may want to bring your telephone credit card if you wish to charge a long distance call or you may also call collect.
  • Please bring any medications you are currently taking at home. Prescription medications need to be in the original labeled pharmacy container.

Visiting Hours/Family/Friends:
We encourage the participation whenever possible of a family member or friend in your recovery. Normal visiting hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Recovery Care Center is located on the southwest side of the building. This door remains open during visiting hours; other entrances to the building are locked at 6:00 p.m. If you need to enter the Recovery Care Center and the door is locked, press the intercom button located at the entrance.

Smoking:
For the health and safety of our patients, the Siouxland Surgery Center maintains a smoke-free environment.
